About Patti Cotten:
Patti Cotten has practiced law as a shareholder at London Amburn since 1994. She co-chairs the firm’s Healthcare Compliance and Regulatory Matters practice and helps lead comprehensive responses to audit and enforcement actions.

Ms. Cotten is actively engaged in advising clients on a broad range of complex healthcare business and regulatory issues. She counsels individual physicians, physician groups, urgent and emergency care companies, healthcare specialists and other related business entities. She has a comprehensive understanding of various federal and state regulatory frameworks and the implications they have for all types of providers.

Ms. Cotten assists with analyzing and investigating potential and actual compliance issues. Strategic in her approach to helping clients avoid litigation, she offers proactive solutions, such as voluntary reporting and implementing third-party payor refund procedures. She regularly counsels clients about issues arising under federal reimbursement laws and regulations and private payer contracts. She reviews and structures healthcare business arrangements with analysis of the federal healthcare laws and regulations, including the Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and the False Claims Act, as well as Tennessee laws, regulations, and rules, applicable to such matters as physician and facility licensure, healthcare conflicts of interest, certificates of need, physician noncompetition, physician and advance practice clinician relationships, office-based procedures and hospital-physician arrangements,  She is passionate about educating her clients and minimizing risk through a practical approach to business planning in an increasingly regulated and transactional healthcare environment.

Ms. Cotten is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the Tennessee Bar Association and the Knoxville Bar Association. She is a frequent speaker for various health-related professional and educational organizations, including having served as a guest lecturer to the University of Tennessee College of Law’s Health Section and as a speaker to the Tennessee Medical Group Manager Association.
